| Muttiah Muralitharan is the leading wicket-taker in both Test and ODI cricket and the first and only Tamil of Indian origin to represent Sri Lanka in international cricket. Muralitharan is not only one of the most successful bowlers in the game but also the greatest player in Sri Lanka's history. Muralitharan divides world opinion with his unusual bowling action. His art of consistency in all forms makes Murali dangerous on any pitch. His off-breaks, top spinners and doosra remain a matter of concern for many top batsmen. In the first edition of IPL, Murali took 11 wickets with a best of 2/40 at an economy rate of 6.97. In the second edition of the IPL, Muralitharan grabbed 14 wickets with an economy rate of 5.22 for semi-finalists Chennai. The wily Sri Lankan had an economy rate of 5.22, the best by any bowler with 10 or more matches in this year's IPL. On July 6, 2010, Muralitharan announced that he will retire from Test cricket after the first Test against India starting July 18. | |||||||||||||
