Every second of our lives we are making decisions without pondering for a while… read this…
A group of children were playing near two railway tracks, one still in use while the other disused. Only one child played on the disused track, the rest on the operational track.
The train is coming, and you are just beside the track interchange. You can make the train change its course to the disused track and save most of the kids. However, that would also mean the lone child playing by the disused track would be sacrificed. Or would you rather let the train go its way?
Let's take a pause to think what kind of decision we could make........ ........
Once you made your decision then only read down……………..
Most people might choose to divert the course of the train, and sacrifice only one child. You might think the same way, I guess. Exactly, everyone thinks the same way initially because to save most of the children at the expense of only one child was rational decision most people would make, morally and emotionally. But, have you ever thought that the child choosing to play on the disused track had in fact made the right decision to play at a safe place?
Nevertheless, he had to be sacrificed because of his ignorant friends who chose to play where the danger was. This kind of dilemma happens around us everyday. In the office, in politics and especially in a democratic society. The child who chose not to play with the rest on the operational track was sidelined. And in the case he was sacrificed, no one would shed a tear for him.
The great critic Leo Velski Julian who told the story said he would not try to change the course of the train because he believed that the kids playing on the operational track should have known very well that track was still in use, and that they should have run away if they heard the train's sirens. If the train was diverted, that lone child would definitely die because he never thought the train could come over to that track! Moreover, that track was not in use probably because it was not safe. If the train was diverted to the track, we could put the lives of all passengers on board at stake! And in your attempt to save a few kids by sacrificing one child, you might end up sacrificing hundreds of people to save these few kids.
While we are all aware that life is full of tough decisions that need to be made, we may not realize that hasty decisions may not always be the right one .

On the first day, as President Abraham Lincoln entered to give his inaugural address, just in the middle, one man stood up. He was a rich aristocrat. He said, “Mr. Lincoln, you should not forget that your father used to make shoes for my family.” And the whole Senate laughed; they thought they had made a fool of Abraham Lincoln.
But
The whole Senate was struck dumb. They could not understand what kind of man Abraham Lincoln was. He was proud because his father did the job so well that not even a single complaint had ever been heard.
Remember:
“No one can hurt you without your consent.”
“It is not what happens to us that hurts us. It is our response that hurts us.”
The following is an article from Subroto Bagchi (Subroto Bagchi is best known for co-founding MindTree in 1999 where he started as the Chief Operating Officer.)
I am beginning to dream..
She is young, beautiful and just two years into her profession as a software engineer at MindTree. Born into a middle-class family of a scientist from Kerala, she has been living by herself in the bustling city of Bangalore. Her world revolved around her work, her family and of course the hope of building a future for herself with her fiancé - a handsome young man from Assam. They had met through friends. He also happens to be in the Information Technology industry, temporarily on a long-term assignment to the United States. Life could not have been more beautiful; full of hope for someone like her who could ask for little else. Then last week, everything changed.
It happened when she was returning from work, riding home on one of the many Volvo buses plying the city. As she was about to step out of the bus when her stop came, the door inadvertently closed in on her due to driver-error and in a moment, her body was pulled under, the wheels of the bus went over her knees, completely crushing the left leg. In that horrible moment of excruciating pain, she lay screaming under the weight of the bus. People stood around, in shocked inaction. A young woman got down from the bus to see what had happened; she summoned the courage to get people to pull her out from under the bus and then brought her to a hospital for emergency care. The attending doctors realized that the injury was severe and they rushed her to a super-speciality hospital where a series of emergency operations were conducted. Among the many critical procedures, doctors tried to repair the vessels supplying blood to the lower parts of leg so that blood supply could reach the extremities without which there was the danger of gangrene setting in. Unfortunately, the effort did not succeed. The knees had been completely crushed. The devastated parents and a few other relatives came rushing. As she kept her struggle on, a decision had to be taken to amputate the leg without which there could be a serious risk to her life. Time was running out. Finally, everyone consented that the left leg must be amputated above her knees. There was no other way.
The inevitability of that decision will take a lifetime to sink in. Her life has changed forever.
When her fiancé heard about the accident, he rushed back to Bangalore. She was in critical care, alternating between sets of life-saving equipment in the ICU and the multiple trips to the operation theatre under heavy dosage of cocktail anti-biotic and morphine to numb her entire consciousness.
Yet she knew he had come.
But she also knew that for a long time, she would not be able to say anything.
She would not be able to ask him anything.
Ask what?
***
After a couple of days of the accident, I met the young man in my office. With the amputation, the series of plastic surgeries that would follow, the management of pain, the trauma, then the slow process of her rehab and finally getting to use a prosthetic leg to gradually return to the world, it would be one long-haul. He in the meantime, had come to discuss about the formalities related to her employment insurance; issues like who would pay how much and what all needed to get done so that she could get the best care possible. After meeting with my colleagues, he had dropped by to see me. It was clear from his demeanour that he had come back to take charge. As I was talking to him, I could not but admire the courage, the character and the commitment. It was her life. It was his too. If he would have been "practical", probably even she would understand.
As we parted after the meeting, I shook his hand and I looked into his young, resolute and immensely powerful eyes.
"I admire you", I told him. He knew what I was talking about.
There was a moment of silence. Then he spoke.
"Nothing changes for me" he said with the firmness of a mountain. I watched him leave.
I know it is going to be another long haul for the one still in the hospital as I write my blog but for now, and for her, I am beginning to dream.
“Yesterday, I was driving, and the FM radio went off for few seconds. I thought, I should have an iPod. Then suddenly I realized that I have not used my iPod in last 6 months. And then… more things, Handy cam in last 2 years, Digital Camera in last 2 months, DVD player in last 1 month and many more. Now I can say that I bought that Handy cam just out of impulse, I have used it twice only in last 4 years.
So, whats wrong and where? When I look at myself or my friends I can see it everywhere. We are not happy with what we have but all are stressed and not happy for the things we don’t have. You have a Spark, but you want Cruze… You have a Cruze, but you want Cadillac. Just after buying a new phone, we need another one. Better laptop, bigger TV, faster car, bigger house, more money… .I mean, these examples are endless. The point is, does it actually worth? Do we ever think if we actually need those things before we want them?
After this, I was forced to think what I need and what I don’t. May be I didn’t need this Handy cam or the iPod or that DVD player. When I see my father back at home. He has a simple BPL colour TV, he doesn’t need 32″ Sony LCD wall mount. He has a cell phone worth Rs 2,500. Whenever I ask him to change the phone, he always says… “Its a phone, I need this just for calls.” And believe me; he is much happier in life than me with those limited resources and simple gadgets. The very basic reason why he is happy with so little is that he doesn’t want things in life to make it luxurious, but he wants only those things which are making his life easier. It’s a very fine line between these two, but after looking my father’s life style closely, I got the point. He needs a cell phone but not the iPhone. He needs a TV but not the 32″ plasma. He needs a car but not an expensive one.
Initially I had lot of questions.
I am earning good, still I am not happy…...why ?
I have all luxuries, still I am stressed.... ....... why ?
I had a great weekend, still I am feeling tired...... why?
I met lot of people, I thought over it again and again, I still don’t know if I got the answers, but certainly figured out few things. I realize that one thing which is keeping me stressed is the “stay connected”syndrome. I realized that, at home also I am logged in on messengers, checking mails, using social networks, and on the top of that, the windows mobile is not letting me disconnected. On the weekend itself, trying to avoid unwanted calls… and that is keeping my mind always full of stress. I realized that I am spending far lesser money than what I earn, even then I am always worried about money and more money. I realized that I am saving enough money I would ever need, whenever needed. Still I am stressed about job and salary and spends.
May be, many people will call this approach “not progressive attitude“, but I want my life back. Ultimately it’s a single life, a day gone is a day gone. I believe if I am not happy tonight, I’ll never be happy tomorrow morning. I finally realized that meeting friends, spending quality time with your loved one’s; spending time with yourself is the most important thing. If on Sunday you are alone and you don’t have anybody to talk with, then all that luxuries life, all that money is wasted. May be cutting down your requirements, re-calculating your future goal in the light of today’s happiness is a worthwhile thing to do. May be selling off your Spark and buying Cruze on EMIs is not a good idea. I believe putting your happiness ahead of money is the choice we need to make.
I think, a lot can be said and done but what we need the most is re-evaluation of the value of happiness and time we are giving to our life and people associate with it.”

This vertical structure will be placed in Cotonduba Island .
It will be both a observation Tower , and a welcome sign for the visitors arriving by air and by sea at Rio de Janeiro , where the Olympic Games 2016 will take place.
The project is from Zurique, and utilizes solar energy during the day with its solo power panels, to pump the sea water as seen in the model.
The movement of the water will be also utilized to turn the turbines and produce the power to work the system at night time.
In the Solo City Tower is the Cafe anfiteatre, auditórium, shops etc. e lifts will take the visitors to the top, where the view will be fantastic, and bungee jumping will have a special platform.
What Jain Says:
This is a hoax which has been circulating around through email and website. The Solar City Tower is a concept envisaged by Zurich based architecture and design studio RAFAA. The design was created for a competition in 2009. The images show an artist's impression of what the proposed tower might look like if constructed. However, the project is just a proposal and the tower may never actually be built.

A gentleman came & asked him." How much do you smoke a day" ?
Smoker : Why are you asking such a question?
Gentleman replied : If you had collected that money instead of smoking, the plane which is in front of you, would have been yours.
Smoker asked that gentleman : Do you smoke?
Gentleman:-No.
Smoker asked:- Does that plane belong to you?
Gentleman replied:- No.
Smoker:-Thanks for your kind advice, but that plane is mine

Finally, Onam has arrived and am running to my native to celebrate it with my family. My celebration will not be complete if i don't share my joy with you guys out there. Well to begin with let me explain what really is ONAM.
The legend says..
Once Kerala (southern state in India) was ruled by mighty asura (demon) king named Mahabali. During this period Kerala witnessed its golden era. Every body in the state was happy and prosperous and king was highly regarded by his subjects.
As per Hindu mythology, Mahabali conqured the 3 worlds by defeating the Devas (the gods). The Devas were very annoyed and approached Vishnu (the protector of world) and asked for his help. Vishnu decided to test Mahabali. In the meantime, Mahabali was performing the sacrificial rite of the on the banks of Narmada River. He also declared that he would give anything that anyone sought from him during this rite. Taking advantage of the Yagam and Mahabali's declaration, Vishnu appeared before Mahabali disguised as a Brahmin and said: "You need not give me anything great. It is enough if you give me that extend of land covered by three footsteps of mine".
Mahabali was a king who would never go back on his word, considering it sinful to do so. Even after his Guru’s (teacher) advice that it was not a ordinary brahmin mahabali accepted the request and asked Vamana to measure the desired three feet of land. Suddenly, Vamana grew in size until he towered above the heavens. With one footstep, he measured all of the earth. With the second, he claimed all of heaven. There was still one foot of territory that Mahabali owed him. Mahabali requested Vamana to place the final step on his head as the third step of land, for he had no other left. Vamana did so and in doing so, pushed him down to Patala, the underworld (the kingdom beneath the earth).
Since Mahabali was a righteous king and moreover a devotee of lord Vishnu himself. the Lord granted him permission to visit his subjects once a year. It is this visit of Mahabali that is celebrated as Onam every year. People make all efforts to celebrate the festival in a grand way and impress upon their dear King that they are happy and wish him well. The most notable feature of Onam is that it is celebrated by every keralite irrespective of the religion even though the celebration came from Hindu mythology.
The Ten Days of Celebration
There is a saying in Malayalam that "Kanam Vittum Onam Unnanam" which means "We should have the Thiruvonam lunch even if we have to sell all our properties" which shows the importance of the Onam celebrations.
Onam comes in the month of "Chingam" which is the first month according to the Malayalam Calendar. The celebrations of Onam start on Atham day, 10 days before onam. Earthen mounds, which look somewhat like square pyramids, representing Mahabali and Vamanan are placed in the dung-plastered courtyards in front of the house and beautifully decorated with flowers. People put flower mats in front of their houses, known as ‘Onapookkalam’,to welcome King Mahabali. it is a carpet made out of the gathered blossoms with one or two varieties of foliage of differing tints pinched up into little pieces to serve the decorator's purpose.
On the 10th day of celebration “Thiruvonam day”, King Mahabali is believed to visit every home. Grand feast called Onasadya is prepared in every household. It is a nine course meal consisting of 11 to 13 essential dishes. Onasadya is served on banana leaves and people sit on a mat laid on the floor to have the meal. The eldest member of each family presents clothes to all the members of the family. Even the poorest of the poor manage to find something for himself to celebrate the national festival in his own humble way.
Onam Pookkalam is considered as a symbol for secularism. Various kinds of flowers combine together to form a great-looking pookkalam. So, it shall reflect those old good days during King Mahabali. It's a great pleasure for people in Kerala to make Pookkalam from Atham to Thiruvonam, especially for children.
Another enchanting feature of Onam is Vallamkali, the Snake Boat Race. It is a colourful sight to watch the decorated boat oared by hundreds of boatmen amidst chanting of songs and cheering by spectators.
There is also a tradition to play games, collectively called Onakalikal, on Onam. While Women indulge in cultural activities like dancing, Men go in for rigorous sports like Talappanthukali (played with ball), Ambeyyal (Archery) and other combats.
Well, I think its time for Sadya (My stomach is crying..). I really recommend you to visit Kerala during an Onam. (but be prepared for a humid climate, it not the Mahabali’s rule now.:-) ).
Wish you all a Wonderful OnaM..

Okhil Chandra Sen wrote this letter to the Sahibganj divisional railway office in 1909. It is on display at the Railway Museum in New Delhi. It was also reproduced under the caption “Travellers’ Tales” in the Far Eastern Economic Review.
Any guesses why this letter is of historic value?
It led to the introduction of TOILETS in trains!!!!!!!!!
